Marmaris

Marmaris, one of the first Turkish holiday results to be discovered by British holidaymakers, is truly the Jewel of the Turkish Riviera.  Located where the Aegean sea meets the Mediterranean, the beautiful bay is famous for its yachting and cosmopolitan atmosphere.  Originally a fishing village, Marmaris now offers a wide range of accommodation ranging from guest houses to luxurious 5 star hotels.

Many restaurants and bars are along the beautiful harbour where you can relax and take in the spectacular view.  The famous Bar Street is just what it says, a street full of night clubs of every description which are open until the early hours.  There are many boutiques, colourful bazaars and markets. You can find excellent leather and suede goods, copper and brassware, jewellery and carved of onyx. Turkish carpets, textiles and embroidery also make good souvenirs and the locally produced pine-scented honey called ‘cambali’ is superb.

The traffic-free promenade stretches from the Netsel marina all the way round the bay to Icmeler.  The 5 km beach is mainly gritty sand.  The sea is warm, crystal clear and perfect for swimming.  All kinds of water sports are available and diving is very popular.

Icmeler

Icmeler (pronounced 'Itch-mel-air'), just 8 km from Marmaris, is the quieter of the two resorts.  Lying in a sheltered bay neighbouring Marmaris, its main attraction is its stunning sandy beach framed by rows of stylish hotels and apartments. There is many bars and restaurants, a few discos and nightclubs, and a good range of shops.  Marmaris is only a 15 minute dolmus ride away.
